Synopsis

I day, information technology is closing time at the Krusty Krab, and Squidward is manifestly delighted at existence gratuitous of work, while a sorry SpongeBob is not. He soon finds an old, blackened, moldy Krabby Patty nether the grill, and he tries to throw information technology out. Still, this triggers an alert, and Mr. Krabs will not let him throw out the patty, every bit serving information technology volition give him 5.2 cents, and he orders SpongeBob "not to brand another patty until that one is sold."

The adjacent twenty-four hours, Squidward is informed of the decision, and reluctantly holds out the rancid patty to the customer. The customer takes ane sniff of the patty, screams in disgust, and backflips out the door.

Sure enough, this results in the Krusty Krab losing many weeks' worth of business concern. Mr. Krabs wonders if it is the new place mats, but Squidward angrily tells his boss it is the old rotten patty he keeps trying to serve to everyone. The stubborn Mr. Krabs dismisses such a notion and has SpongeBob bring information technology out. SpongeBob reveals that he has caged it since it became sentient plenty to growl at him. Mr. Krabs decides to show his views by eating the patty, though before he eats it he sees an ambulance passing the Krusty Krab (mostly because the people already know he volition become sick from eating it). He eats the spoiled patty, and he is promptly rushed to the hospital minutes after while now dark-green. As he is being wheeled in, Mr. Krabs tells SpongeBob to wrap up the balance of the patty considering he still thinks it is worth eating, while the latter worries over his boss.

Mr. Krabs is taken to Davy Jones' locker past the Flying Dutchman.

Soon in the infirmary, the Flying Dutchman appears to condemn him in Davy Jones' Locker for his cheap deportment. Mr. Krabs falsely claims his name is "Harold Bloom," merely the Dutchman gets confirmation from the nurse that he is lying. When they arrive at the locker, Mr. Krabs begs to be freed. The Dutchman agrees to practise this, as long as he will e'er be generous from and then on, and Mr. Krabs promises.

At the Krusty Krab (which went bankrupt and concluded up going out of business due to the amount of business lost and Krabs' absence), Squidward is going through his boss' belongings while a bawling SpongeBob believes he volition come back, though his co-worker is non convinced by the doctor'due south give-and-take. At that moment, Mr. Krabs returns to the Krusty Krab and his employees are shocked to see him again. SpongeBob celebrates equally Squidward is deadpan, simply Mr. Krabs promises to exist less cheap and more generous.

Squidward tells Mr. Krabs nearly the hospital pecker.

Re-opening his restaurant, Mr. Krabs begins to treat everyone nicer with the "employee lounge" and free refills. But shortly, SpongeBob and Squidward get concerned when Mr. Krabs is not the least bit fazed when he receives a $10,000 hospital bill and does non take any money in the register to pay for it. When they tell Mr. Krabs how weird he has been interim, he states that he is having a bad dream and that there is nothing to worry virtually, much to their shock and defoliation. Afterwards Squidward and SpongeBob tell him otherwise, he realizes that the whole thing was real and panics. He now becomes a cheapskate once more and revokes all the gratuitous things he gave to the customers and threatens to rip off one'south arm over a penny. The Dutchman then returns to have him dorsum to the Locker, just SpongeBob bets that Mr. Krabs is generous, and bets that he would option him over all the money in The Dutchman'south pocket. Mr. Krabs promptly takes the money, sending a heartbroken SpongeBob to Davy Jones' Locker. Squidward is shocked and outraged at Mr. Krabs for selling SpongeBob's soul for 62 cents and chews him out. Mr. Krabs sees the mistake of his ways and rejects the money for another chance. The Flying Dutchman so returns with SpongeBob, not because of Mr. Krabs' repenting, but because SpongeBob was Style too abrasive due to his talkative nature and he believes that letting Mr. Krabs have SpongeBob in his life would exist "a fate worse than decease."

Mr. Krabs apologizes to SpongeBob for his petty act, but the latter dismisses it equally he would exercise the same, only promptly denies it, and the crew laughs. At the cease of the episode, the Flight Dutchman is seen reading near the locker when the phone rings. The caller is revealed to be SpongeBob, who begins to annoy the Flight Dutchman again with his consistent chatting.

  • This is the first (and and so far but) episode that shows a time card with SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs on it.

However, in the adjacent scene, when the camera zooms out to see that Mr. Krabs parsimoniously grabs a concord of Incidental sixty'south right arm, the penny is gone. It is possible that Incidental 60 already picked upwards the penny by the time Mr. Krabs grabs his arm.
  • When the Flying Dutchman returns and gives SpongeBob back, he says he only had him for 30 seconds; exactly xxx seconds elapse between the fourth dimension the Dutchman leaves with SpongeBob and returns him to Mr. Krabs.

Errors

  • Fifty-fifty though Mr. Krabs made it a rule non to serve any normal Krabby Patties until the rotten patty is served, Squidward attempts to serve a customer the rotten patty and other people are eating in the background.
    • They could have been eating other items on the bill of fare too Krabby Patties.

Squidward's detached hand.

  • For one frame, Squidward's hand appears to exist discrete from the residue of his arm.
  • The door Mr. Krabs enters the function through leads to the kitchen, yet there is no sign of the condiments or freezer door, and it is incredibly night.
  • When Squidward wakes up from his nap, he enters from the right. Mr. Krabs' function is to the left of the order counter.
  • When Flight Dutchman says, "...only you were cheap,...", his greenish glowing silhouette behind himself freezes, even though he moves slightly.
  • When SpongeBob says, "...the 'employee lounge'.", at that place is a white edge on the right.
  • The 62 cents that Flying Dutchman gives to Mr. Krabs have four errors.
    • One error is that when the 62 cents are first shown, their position is on Flying Dutchman'southward correct hand. Nonetheless, afterward the adjacent two scenes, when Flight Dutchman gives 62 cents to Mr. Krabs, their position is on Flying Dutchman'due south left mitt.
    • The other one is the number of coins that are supposed to exist 62 cents. When the 62 cents are first shown, the number of coins is six. Nonetheless, later on the next two scenes, when Flying Dutchman gives 62 cents to Mr. Krabs, the number of coins is eight instead of six.
    • The other one is the colors of the 62 cents. When the 62 cents are beginning shown, iii of them are silver, two of them are copper, and one of them is in greyness-green color. Even so, after the adjacent 2 scenes onwards, all of them are in copper colors and the sizes are the same, which is incorrect.
    • The other i is that when Mr. Krabs throws the 62 cents onto the flooring, they are nonetheless in that location. However, after one scene and one flashback, they are gone.
  • When Davy Jones' locker is first shown, there are two rocks on the lesser left. Withal, after the next scene, the two rocks are gone.
  • When Incidental 116 drops the clipboard onto the floor after seeing that Mr. Krabs has done a terrible affair, the clipboard is in that location. Yet, when Flying Dutchman appears, the clipboard is gone.

SpongeBob's forepart belt is missing.

In this scene, his whole belt is gone.

  • When Mr. Krabs tells SpongeBob to get a fresh patty, his front belt is gone but his side chugalug is still intact, but when SpongeBob says "aye-aye sir," his whole chugalug is missing.
